DAN BARNETT COMBO
4th October

Members and visitors are in for a treat on 4th October when Down South Jazz Club presents "The Dan Barnett Combo" at Club Sapphire. The band comprises Dan Barnett on trombone/shells/vocals, George Washingmachine on violin/vocals), Mike Walsh on bass, Peter Locke on keyboards, and Cyril Bevan on drums.

Dan Barnett was born into music, being the son of the legendary Sydney bassist Cliff Barnett. He began his musical life as a trombonist and quickly developed a love for singing and has since carved out an enviable reputation on the Australian music scene.  Dan has played and sung for the DSJC several times over the last few years. He has worked with some of the greats in Australian and world music such as James Morrison, INXS, Bob Barnard, George Washingmachine, Tommy Emmanuel, Judy Carmichael, Tricia Evy and Kevin Hunt, appeared many festivals throughout Australia and  toured throughout Thailand, Europe, Taiwan and the USA.

Russian-born George Washingmachine has entertained us many times, always to a full house. He has had a vast and varied career in the entertainment business. As a child he trained for seven years as a classical violinist, leaving that behind to form a rhythm and blues band as guitarist, until 1984, when he moved to Sydney and started playing jazz fiddle with The Conway Brothers Hiccup Orchestra. George and his band have had great success over the past few years with their theme "Feel the Manouche" and have toured extensively, both throughout Australia and overseas.

It will be a first visit to the Down South Jazz Club for Mike Walsh on bass and we look forward to meeting and hearing him very much.

Cyril Bevan was house drummer at London’s Talk of the Town for 16 years and for many years was regular drummer for worldwide piano legend, Winifred Atwell. At one time his father was butler for the Governor General in Canberra. He is an inspiration for young and old and won fans on every performance he made with The Janet Seidel Trio during their UK tour in 2016. We were to have seen him last year when he did his Australian tour with the Janet Seidel Trio, but he had to cancel on that occasion so we are delighted to have another opportunity to see him.
